College of Charleston brother receives Alumni Award of Honor

The Alumni Award of Honor is the highest honor awarded by the College of Charleston Alumni Association. It is presented to those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Association or to the College. This was formerly known as the Honorary Life Membership Award. Both alumni and friends of the College are eligible for this award.

This award goes to a person who has made outstanding contributions to the Alumni Association or to the College. Sam Stafford has certainly done both. He has served as president of the Alumni Association and is currently serving on the Alumni Board again as the representative from the College of Charleston Foundation Board. He has served on the College’s Board of Trustees and the School of the Arts Advisory Council. For many years, he was the alumni advisor for his fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi. He has served as a mentor to many College of Charleston students over the years, especially those planning a career in medicine. It was one of these students who nominated Dr. Stafford for this award.

A leader in the medical community, Dr. Stafford teaches at MUSC and has a large dermatology practice in Mt. Pleasant. He and his wife, Nancy Webb Stafford ’70 are also leaders in Charleston’s arts
