Dibble is on the trip of a lifetime through Journey of Hope in an effort to support the very people he was hanging out with and enjoying pizza with on Monday.
The Journey of Hope is sponsored by The Ability Experience, which was founded in 1977 by Pi Kappa Phi fraternity members, and consists of fraternity members cycling across the country to raise money and awareness for people with disabilities. The group that stopped at Mosaic, consisting of 20 cyclists and six crew members, began their route in Seattle. Two other groups began in San Francisco and Los Angeles. All three groups eventually will end their routes together in Washington D.C.
Dibble, who graduated this spring from Bowling Green State University in Kentucky as a Pi Kappa Phi member, said cycling from Seattle to Washington, D.C., has been exhausting but rewarding.
“Last year, I did a different route as a crew member, which made me want to get more involved this year. Don’t get me wrong, physically it is exhausting and tough,” Dibble said. “But in the end, there is nothing better than seeing the people we are really helping, and that keeps me pushing through.”
So far, the Journey of Hope has raised $565,000 this summer, with a goal of raising $650,000. Mosaic community relations manager Vickie Harshbarger said having the cyclists stop at Mosaic was exciting for the clients.
