The cyclists come from all over the United States from different universities. Cyclists rid several miles everyday, totaling approximately 12,000 miles as they ride from California to Washington, D.C. The ride is designed to raise awareness for people with disabilities.
Monday, the riders stopped in Grand Island where they spent two days to get to members of the Arc Central Nebraska. Arc members and bicyclists use the time to form friendships, ones they say will last for many years.
“A lot of them will ask for a Facebook or keep in touch with phone numbers, mailing addresses or something. It’s definitely not uncommon for a cyclist or a group member to keep in touch with a client at one of these stops for years after the ride,” Floridian bicyclist Nick Stampar said.
