The arrival weekend is the culmination of a life-changing summer. Upon building hope for many individuals across the country, one cannot help but get caught up in the emotion surrounding such a special day. This is a weekend of celebrating abilities and accomplishments while reflecting on a summer of service.

*Washington DC Mask Mandate Update*
Starting July 31, masks will be required indoors in D.C. for everyone over the age of two, even vaccinate people. This includes all stores, hotels and restaurants. Arrival guests will be required to wear masks in all public areas of the hotel, whenever not eating or drinking. Please pack/plan accordingly as you pack for your visit to D.C.

The Journey of Hope Arrival weekend in Washington D.C. is scheduled for August 13-15, 2021 with the arrival at the United States Capitol taking place on Saturday, August 14. Family and Friends Info Session

Where: Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill

When: Friday, August 13, 2020

Time: Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 5:00 p.m.

What: This info session is for family and friends of Journey of Hope. It is a time to reflect on the summer and go over important details for Saturday’s events. Many sponsors, volunteers and staff members who worked with the team members throughout the event will also be in attendance for you to meet. Parents of past team members will be providing guidance on “life after The Ability Experience team event.”  Transitioning back to school, work and other activities bring opportunities as well as challenges for your son and family, and these parents can help you with this transition.

No registration required. This information session is free to attend.

A cash bar will be available. Dress is casual.  

Journey of Hope Arrival

Where: West front lawn of the United States Capitol building

When: Saturday, August 14, 2020

Time: The teams will arrive promptly at 11:00 a.m. but is subject to change based on weather conditions.

IMPORTANT: Friends and family must arrive at the Capitol building by 10:30 a.m. It will most likely be very warm, so dress comfortable and bring water and sunscreen! Absolutely no alcohol is allowed at the Arrival event on Capitol grounds. Please stay off any structures and respect the Capitol grounds.

The Ability Experience Celebration

Where: Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill

When: Saturday, August 14, 2021

Time: Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with a program beginning at 5:00 p.m.

This event will highlight the teams who just finished their event while also celebrating The Ability Experience’s history. Displays will be set up around the room to showcase some of the special people, places and events in The Ability Experience family. The event will also be a meeting place for The Ability Experience family to reflect on their experiences. The Ability Experience has grown throughout the years and shaped many lives of people of all abilities, and we hope you will join us for the celebration!

Light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. Dress is business casual.
