Upon building hope for many individuals across the country, one cannot help but get caught up in the emotion surrounding such a special day. This is a weekend of celebrating abilities and accomplishments while reflecting on a summer of service.

The Journey of Hope Arrival weekend in Washington D.C. is scheduled for Friday, August 7-9, 2020 with the arrival at the United States Capitol taking place on Saturday, August 8. Our host hotel is the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. We have secured special group rates for family members at the Hyatt for the weekend. Family and Friends Reception

Where: Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill

When: Friday, August 7, 2020

Time: 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

What: This reception is for family and friends of Journey of Hope. It is a time to reflect on the summer and go over important details for Saturday’s events. Many sponsors, volunteers and staff members who worked with your son throughout the event will also be in attendance for you to meet. Parents of past team members will be providing guidance on “life after The Ability Experience team event.”  Transitioning back to school, work and other activities bring opportunities as well as challenges for your son and family, and these parents can help you with this transition. This is not a dinner, but there will be hors d’oeuvres provided and a cash bar. Dress is business casual.  

Journey of Hope Arrival

Where: West front lawn of the United States Capitol building

When: Saturday, August 8, 2020

Time: The teams will arrive promptly at 11:00 a.m. but is subject to change based on weather conditions.

IMPORTANT: Friends and family must arrive at the Capitol building by 10:30 a.m. It will most likely be very warm, so wear shorts and bring water and sunscreen! Please stay off any structures and respect the Capitol grounds as this allows us to hold our celebration here each year.

The Ability Experience Celebration

Where: Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill

When: Saturday, August 8, 2020

Time: Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with a program beginning at 5:00 p.m.

This event will highlight the teams who just finished their event while also celebrating The Ability Experience’s history. Displays will be set up around the room to showcase some of the special people, places and events in The Ability Experience family. The event will also be a meeting place for The Ability Experience family to reflect on their experiences. The Ability Experience has grown throughout the years and shaped many lives of people of all abilities, and we hope you will join us for the celebration! There will be very light snacks and a cash bar. Dinner will be on your own. Dress is business casual.
