24-Jul-17

July 24, 2017 – Meridian, MS to Tuscaloosa, AL – 100 miles

Today was a special day for the team as we entered into our eight state of the journey, Alabama. It was also a special day for me as it was my birthday!

We started our day with a delicious breakfast sponsored by the Meridian First Ladies Civitan Club at the McDonalds across the street from our lodging. The coffee and food were just what what the team needed to get going! The ride was scenic and the rolling hills of Mississippi and Alabama kept the day interesting for everyone on the road. This ride was our 2nd to last century ride and our arrival into DC is getting nearer and nearer.

After a crew chief lunch we arrived at our lodging for the night, the Omicron Chapter (University of Alabama)! The brothers there were very welcoming and it was a treat to stay with one of the coolest fraternity houses I’ve ever seen. Omicron provided a delicious dinner of fried chicken and mac and cheese to the team. It is humbling to have this much support from fellow chapters and I hope to one day give back to future teams.

I couldn’t have asked for a better group to spend my birthday with! We finished the day by venturing into Tuscaloosa and exploring the town. This has been the journey of a lifetime and I cannot wait to see what these last couple weeks have in store for us.
