June 22, 2017 – Bullhead City, AZ to Lake Havasu, AZ – 65 miles

Hello all!

Today we rode 65 miles into Lake Havasu City, AZ. The first 33 miles of the ride went smoothly and we held a very good pace despite riding into a headwind. We then racked the bikes for 10 miles to Love’s truck stop where we met up with Mark and seven other cyclists from the Lake Havasu. We were all thankful to be greeted with coolers full of cold water and Powerade donated by a local sponser.

After all the riders were staged up at the truck stop, we began our 10 mile ride into town. My pace line went out first along with a local man named Jim and we started the climb. It was very windy while climbing up the hill, but the descent into town was fast and very fun. We came down the hill and staged again, but this time we were at Walmart. They graciously opened their doors to us and allowed us to enjoy some fruit and water while hanging out in the A/C.

We then formed double pacelines and enjoyed an AMAZING police escort through town to the high school. After arriving at the high school we shared lunch with Special Olympics athletes from the area. I decided to take a nice two hour nap to recover and then it was off to dinner and another friendship visit with the    . We devoured a large spread of pasta and salad, along with sherbet. As always we introduced ourselves and shared fun facts. Overall, we had a wonderful first day in Lake Havasu! I am looking forward to a long night of rest followed by relaxation on Friday.
