Orientation and Kick-Off Events

Orientation offers a chance for team members to get acquainted, learn about people with disabilities and participate in skills assessments, training rides and safety training to prepare them for the life-changing events ahead.

TransAmerica Route

Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend the kick-off; however, it is important that any family or friends planning on coming to Seattle understand that orientation is a retreat setting and team members will not be available to see family and friends until the afternoon of Tuesday, June 5. Most family and friends take this time to see some of the different sites in Seattle. In fact, many team members and their families arrive early to sight-see. The team will be staying in Gig Harbor, but will have an opportunity to visit the city on Tuesday afternoon.

Crew Travel Information

All crew members must arrive at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) for Journey of Hope Crew Training  no later than 3:00 p.m. PST on Monday, May 28th 2018. Transportation from Airport will be provided. Anyone driving or arriving prior to May 28 should report directly to Crew Training site in Gig Harbor, WA by 3:00 p.m. PST.

Cyclist Travel Information

Cyclists on TransAmerica Route must arrive at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) for the Team Orientation no later than 1:00 p.m. PST on Friday, June 1, 2018. Anyone driving or arriving prior to June 1 should report directly to Team Orientation Site in Gig Harbor, WA by 1:00 p.m. PST on Friday, June 1, 2018. Travel plans should not be made until after routes are announced.

Journey of Hope Kick-Off Dinner

The 2018 Journey of Hope TransAmerica Kick-Off Dinner will be hosted by The Ability Experience on Tuesday, June 5 at 4:30 p.m. at Buca Di Beppo (701 Westlake Ave North, Seattle, WA). Dinner will be a celebration of the journey that is about to begin as well as a detailed explanation of the next morning’s schedule of events.

Journey of Hope Kick-Off

The 2018 Journey of Hope TransAmerica team will depart for Enumclaw and their first day of cycling on Wednesday, June 6 from Golden Gardens Park (8498 Seaview Pl NW, Seattle, WA 98117).  Following a kick-off breakfast, the team will be departing at 8:00 a.m. If you are interested in joining us for breakfast, please arrive at 7:00 a.m. to allow plenty of time to eat and take photos prior to the team’s departure.

Most family and friends take this time to see some of the different sites around the Bay Area. In fact, many team members and their families arrive early to sight-see.

Journey of Hope Kick-Off & Kick-Off Dinner

The 2018 Journey of Hope North team will kick off from the Golden Gate Bridge Visitors’ Center near Fort Point National Historic Site on Saturday, June 9th at 3:00p.m. If you are interested in joining the team for the kickoff festivities, please arrive at 2:30 p.m. to allow plenty of time to take photos prior to the team’s departure.

The team will cycle across the bridge, ending at the kickoff dinner location at San Rafael Joe’s (931 4th Street, San Rafael, CA 94901). Dinner will be a celebration of the journey that is about to begin. There will also be a detailed explanation of the next morning’s schedule of events.

On Sunday, June 10, the team will have breakfast at 7:00 a.m. at the Embassy Suites (101 McInnis Pkwy, San Rafael, CA 94903). Circle up and send off will be at 7:30 a.m.

Journey of Hope Kick-Off Aquarium Visit and Dinner

The 2018 Journey of Hope South will wrap up their time in Long Beach with a visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific, followed by the team’s Kick-Off Dinner at Naples Rib Company on Wednesday, June 13. Both events are open to family and friends to join the team. Dinner will be a celebration of the journey that is about to begin as well as a detailed explanation of the next morning’s schedule of events.

Journey of Hope Kick-Off
