29-Jun-17

June 29, 2017 – Lakeside, AZ to Zuni, NM – 105 miles

Today the south route team woke up bright and early in Lakeside, AZ to cycle to Zuni, NM! At the start of the day we had a delicious meal prepped by our crew chief and started riding at 6:30 AM. The ride into Zuni was absolutely astonishing, climbing up we had a beautiful view of the canyons nearby and great weather. Most days the south route has cycled in 100+ degree weather however today was a warm 85-90  degrees. Today was especially cool because the team reached 1,000 miles traveled for the trip! We’ve come a long way and I can’t wait for the next 2,700 miles to D.C.

Once we were finished with our ride for the day, the team showered and got tidied up for a local sponsored dinner! It was sponsored by the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church a few steps from lodging and we were welcomed by the locals with great attitudes. For dinner we had turkey, stuffing, mac ‘n cheese, mashed potatoes and much more! After a long 105 mile day of cycling it was amazing to have such an incredible dinner and conversations with the locals. They really do appreciate what we do and we’re more than happy to be in a team photo with us! Today was a great day and I am excited for what’s to come!
